Dream Guy Darren
The handsome Glee actor, Darren Criss (25), can thank youtube for his enormous success.
TOPP is in Los Angeles on the set of the popular TV show, Glee. Unlike the pressing heat that we otherwise experience in the city, the set is cold. This is to prevent the actors sweating under the strong lights, a production assistent tells us. I dressed in a thick wool sweater and pants, but Darren is used to the cold and shows up in shorts and a t-shirt.
- Hello, says the 25 year old, and drags his hand through his dark hair. He looks rudely awake for someone who has been working for almost 14 hours.
- As an actor in Hollywood you have to love what you do, otherwise you wouldn’t last long in this business, Darren laughs.

Enjoys playing a gay character
When Darren was 22, his college friends and him decided to make the musical, A Very Potter Musical, a parody of Harry Potter. The musical became a success, and they posted it on the internet. In spite of bad sound quality, the video became a Youtube sensation, and Darren decided to start up the production company, Starkid, with his friends. Barely a year later, he got the role as the gay choir boy Blaine Anderson, and has since been a part of the Glee family.
- Everything in life is defined by who you surround yourself with. Not always about what you do, but who you do it with.

What kind of response have you gotten from other, about playing the role of a gay character?
- Only positive feedback! It’s really fun playing Blaine, and I don’t have any problems with him being gay.

Skipped prom
What were you like as a ten year old?
- When people ask me that, I can rarely respond. I thought I was cool, but you never know! Maybe that made me less cool?

How was your school like?
- I liked it very much there. It was a school with a big theater environment. People would look at you oddly, if you didn’t engage in theater. Even the jocks were involved in theater!
How was prom experience?

- I actually helped organise the whole thing, but I got grounded, so I never went!

What happened?
- I sneaked out of the house one night to go to the cinema with some friend. When my parents found out I got grounded! While my other friends got grounded because they got drunk, I got grounded because I sneaked out to watch a movie with my friends, the handsome guy laughed.

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?
- Eating ice cream in the living room, or something like that! I’m very innocent!
